The Company
Ariana™ is a leading decision support company, focused on transforming data into information to accelerate the discovery and development process, and to improve the safety of pharmaceutical drugs. The Company, based at the Institut Pasteur Biotop in Paris, has been launched in 2003, and has already established a rapidly growing and profitable software business through collaboration and licensing agreement with some of the largest pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.

Ariana has developed KEM® (Knowledge Management and Extraction), a proprietary decision support technology for rapid analysis of multi-parametric – multi-objective data. Deployed in pharmaceutical companies, KEM® has a unique ability to translate analysis of data from multiple sources into successful decisions for the optimisation of novel drug therapies. In clinical trials, KEM can fully characterise populations that are most responsive, as well as populations at risk, impacting the outcome of the trial as well focusing the post launch marketing effort. Analysing safety data on both failed and marketed products, KEM is able to identify relations that link molecular features, results of early tests (vitro) with the risk of adverse events.

Despite over a decade of massive investment by the pharmaceutical industry into high throughput methods (Genomics, High Throughput Screening and combinatorial chemistry), efficient identification and optimization of potent and quality lead molecules is still the highest and riskiest hurdle in current drug discovery and development. The only clear outcome of high throughput methods has been an unparalleled production of large quantities of data that need to be analyzed.

In order to reduce risks in the clinical stages of development, in a typical lead optimization process, 40-60 assays are run in parallel or in a cascade to evaluate the potency of each candidate molecule, its specificity, its good Absorption and Distribution, good Metabolism and Excretion profiles and limited Toxicity (ADME-T). In this multiparametric space, identifying “Quality” pre-clinical and clinical candidate molecules which display desirable properties is a true challenge.

Ariana’s multiparametric analysis technology is directly translated into action. Predictions are made in a multi-parametric mode i.e. identifying chemical features that not only impact potency of a molecule, but rather improve its potency, absorption, half life, lack of toxicity and clinical outcome.

Ariana Pharma`s innovative computational front end substantially improves the chances of not only identifying “hit” molecules, but also of improving their success rates at the later stages of development. The platform increases throughput and success rates while decreasing the costs of the initial discovery phases.
